Hill Williams and Hobbits

We are home from Countrymusicville. Thanksgiving with Miss Inez and the Preacher was nice and quiet. Too quiet. That big house was full of kids and brothers last year. This year, it was just the four of us. We managed not to be too down, even though the Preacher slipped up during grace and included the Pilot. A big distraction is the addition of Miss Inez's 91 year old mama, Miz Lou, in the nursing home down the hill. We spent a lot of time with her. She is a fine old Mizippy country lady. I wish I had more time to get her to sit and reminisce.

We also spent a spell at cousin Dana's coffee house, among many long-haired, pierced hippie throwback Christian rednecks. Most of them smelled good (I love patchouli) and had teeth. The music was nice, too.

Last night found us tootling home with a van full of furniture. We got hungry in Lexington, VA, so we stopped at that Scottish food place. Inside, we found a collection of true Hill Williams in an overly warm restaurant. I'd warrant (from the scent) these fellers had not yet suffered their weekly pre-church ablutions. I've also never seen such a collection of amazing facial hair. These guys looked like they'd just wandered in off the set of Cold Mountain, except they were wearing modern clothes. They were completely, toothlessly unintelligible, too. Now, we've lived among some pretty steep Hill Williams before, but these dudes were impressively backwoodsy. Wow.

Today we brought the rest of the Huge Bedroom Set in. The four-poster bed is very tall. I can sit on it and swing my little hobbit feet. The room is small. The people are little. The furniture is huge! I'm sure we'll look very amusing when we snuggle down for sleepies tonight in our monstrous old bed.

Must go make pisketti for my Samurai. He and the Wonder Borkita are keeping the sofa warm. Casey is exhausted after being kenneled for three days. He's hoarse from lots of barking, and acting vaguely traumatized. Not gonna use that kennel again!
