I owe Miz Claudette an entry, since I've been a slug since Christmas.

We spent our holiday in Nashville, at the Preacher's new house. My father-in-law is a sweet man, and his new wife, Miss Inez, is a tall lady with an even sweeter disposition than the Preacher's. (He can get cantankerous, as most Southern men of a certain age are wont to be.) We arrived late at night, to a crystalline fairyland of ice and snow. The Pilot and his family had already safely arrived from Florida, so we were ready for our Christmas extravaganza. Inez's daughter Cindy and the irrespresible Miz Claudette joined us, as well as numerous cousins and additional aunts. We ate way too much, cuddled a lot (it was c-c-cold!), giggled, carried on, and generally enjoyed each other's company. Two events stand out in my mind:

*Going to Chuck E. Cheese with loads of children on Dec. 26th--Cindy's idea, and actually fun! It helps when you are a crowd, and the kids have lots of playmates they know.

*Going shopping with the Preacher, the Samurai, Inez, Claudette, and me crammed into a car and letting the Preacher drive. He never goes directly to any location--there are side trips and errands galore, plus "shortcuts" that take you all over creation. We did enjoy our lunch, and our martinis, and the bickering was the good-natured kind that you do with people you love. The Samurai managed to find a Spider-Man tie, and I got curtains for my big kitchen window (AKA The Neighborhood Burlesque Morning Show, Featuring Samurai Undies!) so it was a good day.

We came home with a vanload of lovely dark wood furniture, and the Preacher will be bringing the rest when he comes to visit later this month. Anyone who wants the French Provincial stuff (Manus?) is welcome to it after we get it all out of our bedroom. (dresser, chest of drawers, blanket chest, mirror, and lingerie chest--no bed.)

Last night we dragged Casey to Corby and Thjora's and had a lovely New Year's Eve. Casey hung out with ravishing lady dogs, Alan made awesome raspberry martinis, and we toodled home today feeling blessed indeed.

Tomorrow we'll go to church and pray for the tsunami victims, and find out what we can do to help.
