Our first Halloween at the new house was lovely. Lots of cute littleuns, and nice parents who introduced themselves and welcomed us to the neighborhood. The Samurai had a blast handing out candy and admiring his warmly glowing new lights (the baby tea house on the porch has been joined by a bigger version on the garage). The house is definitely starting to feel homey. Once I fix the holes and scrape down the walls, it'll be just about ready for paint.

Today, I went to a professional conference with three other members of my core team. We had fun driving to Billsburg, but we were then treated to a mind-boggling, butt-numbing, *eight-hour* powerpoint about inclusion. The thing didn't really have much pizzazz--just text, some of it ungrammatical and misspelled. This was for an audience of *teachers,* too. The low point was being taught how to communicate with each other. We parroted the "techniques" all the way home.

"Is that an accident? Up ahead, there?"

"I hear what you're saying, and understand how you feel. You say there's an accident ahead, did I get that right?"

The accident made us take a detour through scenic downtown Newport News, where we contemplated shoving Dave the Exceptional Ed teacher out of the van and leaving him on a street corner. He spent all day creating games involving Jolly Rancher wrappers and empty Mountain Dew bottles. Yep, we're perfessionals, all right.

Tomorrow is part 2, and should be better, as we're in short sessions all day. At least the drive over will be fun!

Good news du jour--the independent kitchen counter guy I called came in with an estimate of half the price the Big-Box store wanted. Yee haw!
