Church Llama

Today we went to our first church picnic.

Every year, our church celebrates its anniversary by having services in a tent, followed by a picnic. Last Thursday and Friday, this seemed unrealistic, given the howling nor'easter and cold temps we were dealing with, but God came through with a sunny, warm, slightly breezy day.

Tent service was fun, since our minister has a short attention span and he kept getting distracted by things behind all of us congegants, like leaping barbecue flames and a llama.

Yes, we had livestock. Seems the elders got pony rides and a petting zoo (goats, the llama, a teensy pony, and a tortoise-and-hare (bunny, actually) combo.) We also had games and face painting for the wee ones. Since we are overrun with offspring, this turned out to be very good planning. Many of our mommies were celebrating their very first Mother's Day, and I think they all enjoyed the chance to watch the kids have fun and eat barbecued food and ice cream cake. We especially enjoyed the music-how many churches blast U2 on their sound systems during picnics? The Samurai got a lovely pate burn and fed the llama, too.

Had a nap this afternoon, as I'm still feeling coldy, but now I have to cook, eat, and grade papers. This week has no breaks in it whatsoever, just wall-to-wall stuff 8-6 or 8-8 every day. Can't afford a relapse.

Casey says I have to go to the living room now. (He herds us in there together, if he can.) Happy Mother's Day, everyone!
